Loft Style Interior Design

What is an attic and how to create an interior design for an apartment or house in this style?

In recent years, the popularity of loft style interior design has grown exponentially and has spread all over the world. Loft style apartments can be very different and differ by region and continent.

In America, one of the reasons loft was so popular was that the young population began moving to smaller apartments, often found in old warehouse or factory buildings. In our region, this style has become popular thanks to Western culture, as well as movies and TV shows that often show such interiors.

What is an attic and how to create an interior design for an apartment or house in this style?

A penthouse is a fairly large open space, usually obtained after an industrial building is converted into a residential building. Loft flats generally do not have interior walls except for bathrooms and toilets, and at the same time, these rooms have very high ceilings.

In loft apartments, exposed balconies and columns, as well as ventilation grilles, as well as open pipes can often be seen. Typical materials used in loft apartments are concrete, glass and wood. Often times, such apartments actually have fairly large windows to the floor.

Loft style apartments are very minimalist. The main purpose in the design of this type of interior is to preserve the feeling of open space.

Designers often divide the loft style into "hard" and "soft".

When it comes to converted industrial buildings that were in use before, then we are talking about a truly "hard" loft.

However, quite often in our time, a completely new apartment is converted into an attic, even if it had not previously served industrial purposes. Such situations fall into the "soft" style category.

Loft style is an option often preferred by creators, artists and craftsmen who seek free space to live and work while creating their art.

The main elements of "living in the attic or in the attic" can be called: a rather large bed, a giant dining table, the presence of industrial shelves, and brick walls. In addition, large ventilation pipes, exposed wires, bare columns and beams, and wooden floor coverings are often left exposed on the walls to preserve the industrial spirit in rooms.

One of the problems with loft-style rooms can be called acoustics caused by the large space in the building. To solve this problem, it is better to prefer sound-absorbing materials. Choose wooden furniture covered with dense textiles, put rugs on the floor.

Lighting is also important in the design of loft-style houses. It is usually intended to highlight the texture of the materials and therefore wall sconces are often used here. Since one of the main features of the loft is the presence of large windows, these rooms are naturally brightly lit during the day.

It is strongly not recommended to use a large amount of furniture in the design of a loft-style house. Usually, the kitchen and living room in such dwellings are combined and separated using a dining table or a counter with a bar stool.
